Our Uniform Policy can be found on our Policies and Procedures webpage.

Introduction & Rationale

All pupils are expected to wear the correct school uniform at all times, as well as present themselves accordingly so they look smart and presentable. Pupils attending this school benefit from its reputation and we expect pupils to help to maintain that reputation by their high standards of behaviour and appearance, both in school and in the local community.  Parents are expected to support the school policy on uniform and standards. This policy will cover:

  • Uniform
  • PE kit
  • Hair, makeup and jewellery
  • Equipment

Support

If a student is having difficulty in fulfilling any aspect of this policy, then we do ask that communication occurs with school, this should include a reasonable timeframe for correction of the issue. This will allow us to work together and help resolve the matter. We have a well stocked uniform cupboard, including new and pre-worn items, and as part of the support we offer, we expect students to loan any item that they cannot fulfill. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive and supportive school, therefore, we are happy to support parents/carers and students in any way we can, including financial support where necessary. For further information, please contact Mr Bibby, Senior Pastoral Leader.

Uniform

At Bishop Barrington Academy, we believe that uniform has to be affordable and give value for money. To ensure that we achieve this, we carefully consider the following:

  • Prioritising both cost and value for money when awarding contracts to suppliers.
  • Making sure a stock of uniform readily available.
  • The number of branded items we ask parents/carers to buy.
  • Ensuring that cheaper alternatives of uniform are available to parents and carers.

What to Wear

Bishop Barrington Academy uniform consists of a black blazer with school logo, black trousers or skirt, purple Bishop Barrington tie, white shirt and black school shoes or ankle boots (no trainers or trainer like footwear are permitted). There is an option to purchase an iron on or sew on badge. The sew on badge can be purchased through the School Gateway app for a cost of £4.

PE Kit

Students are expected to wear Bishop Barrington’s compulsory PE kit (see section below on ‘how to order’), this includes:

  • Black Logo’d polo t-shirt
  • Plain black shorts or plain black tracksuit bottoms
  • Trainers

We do offer additional items to purchase, such as:

Students can wear black base layers in winter months, but must have the correct Bishop Barrington PE kit over the top.

Hair, Makeup & Jewellery

Jewellery

The only jewellery allowed is one small set of plain gold or silver ear studs in the lobe and/or a wristwatch. Electronic/Apple watches should not be worn. Inappropriate jewellery will be confiscated.

Hairstyles

Hair should be tidy, clean and suitable for a working environment, e.g. no hair dyed in unnatural colours. Long hair must be tied back for practical subjects.

Makeup

Makeup should be light, discreet and not excessive. Wrapped, acrylic and gel nails are not allowed, this is a health and safety issue which will prevent students from doing practical lessons.

Piercings & Tattoos

Facial and visible body piercings are not allowed. Covering up piercings with plasters is not a solution – please do not arrange piercings to coincide with term dates as students will be asked to remove inappropriate studs in line with policy.

Tattoos are illegal under the “Tattooing of Minors Act, 1969”.

Equipment

Being prepared for lessons will ensure students have the best opportunity for making progress overtime. As a minimum, we ask students to ensure they have the following:

Compulsory:

  • Bag
  • Pencil case
  • 2x black pens
  • 2x pencils
  • Ruler
  • Green pen
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Rubber
  • Highlighter

Support with Equipment

Students can borrow any items that they are missing from their form tutor. Additionally, students can purchase all items if equipment from the rewards store.

Sanctions

We at Bishop Barrington pride ourselves on inclusivity and community, which means we do our utmost to support families where possible. However, if any rule within this policy is broken or procedures are not followed, then we reserve the right to apply any appropriate sanction. This can include: detention, isolation, seclusion, parental behaviour meeting, fixed term, exclusion or permanent exclusion.
