Transport

Bishop Barrington Academy operates its home to school transport arrangements under Durham County Council’s Home to School Transport policy which, from September 2012, states:

Students of compulsory school age are entitled to free home to school transport to the nearest suitable school, if that school is more than three miles from the parental home using the shortest available walking route.

Routes are measured from the centre point of a student’s house, or in the case of a flat from the centre point of the building, to the nearest school entrance. The courts have defined an available route as one ‘along which a child accompanied as necessary can walk and walk with reasonable safety to school’.

Please refer to the Durham County Council webpage for further information on how to apply for concessionary seats.

Arriva 6 Free Bus Pass

If your child is not eligible for free transport, we can offer a free Arriva 6 route bus pass. This is a public bus but pupils will receive a free bus pass and can use it at any time. Therefore if they have an appointment or miss the bus they can use it on any Arriva 6 bus.

School Minibus

We can also offer (subject to availability) seats on one of our school minibuses. These are normally reserved for pupils who are not eligible for free DCC travel and who do not live on an Arriva 6 bus route.

Any questions regarding any school transport, please contact Mr Ben Johnson on ben.johnson@bishopbarrington.net
