Mathematics
Our mathematics curriculum provides a high-quality education, enabling students to acquire powerful mathematical knowledge and fluency. The knowledge that our curriculum delivers, empowers students, unlocks potential and opens doors to the future, which may otherwise be limited by the socio-economic context of the local area.
Our curriculum recognises the challenges that students from disadvantaged backgrounds may face; its implementation ensures a supportive and inclusive learning environment which enables all students to achieve their full potential.
Interwoven throughout our curriculum is a focus on practical, real-world applications of mathematical concepts. The design of the curriculum has a strong emphasis on problem-solving and critical thinking skills; developing students’ independent learning, nurturing resilience and fostering curiosity of learning. Opportunities such as inter-trust ‘maths challenge events’ and ‘Pi Day’ embrace and enrich this focus and curriculum design.
Our curriculum provides students with the mathematical knowledge and skills necessary to open the doors to further study of mathematics beyond Year 11. Students will be looking at a wide range of topics from number, algebra, probability, ratio and statistics with a focus on applying individual elements to more complicated reasoning questions combining multiple mathematical themes. It enables students to become adept at applying their financial literacy to real world experiences and their daily lives.
