The internet is a wonderful feature, but it’s important to make sure you’re staying safe while using it.
Here are some hints and tips about how to stay safe online.

Discord is a free app which allows users to communicate in real time via text, video or voice chat. Available on desktop and mobile devices, it was originally designed to help gamers cooperate – but has evolved into a more general networking platform for a range of online communities, discussing topics like TV series, music, Web3 and more. Discord is organised around closed groups, referred to as ‘servers’. To join a server, users must be invited or provided with a unique link. It’s a space for users to interact with friends, meet others with shared interests and collaborate in private online — but it’s also a place where young people can be exposed to risks if the right precautions aren’t taken.
In the guide, you’ll find tips on a number of potential risks such as cyberbullying, predators and inappropriate content.
Safer Internet Day is very nearly upon us, and making sure children and young people are aware of the dangers of the internet is more important than ever. I highly recommend watching this short film put together by the UK Safer Internet Centre. to helping pupils stay safe online
Bishop Barrington Academy is now a National Online Safety Certified School
Bishop Barrington Academy has successfully completed a comprehensive online safety training programme demonstrating its commitment to keeping children and young people safe online.
Bishop Barrington Academy – has received a National Online Safety Certified School Accreditation for its whole school community approach to protecting children in the online world.
National Online Safety is a multi-award winning digital training provider with extensive resources in online safety, developed in line with the Department of Education’s statutory requirements.
Its CPD accredited courses and educational resources support UK schools in educating the whole school community in online safety– including all senior leaders, teachers, all school staff and parents – on how to make the internet a safer place for children.
James Southworth, co-founder of National Online Safety, said: “Congratulations to everyone at Bishop Barrington Academy on becoming a National Online Safety Certified School. By completing our training programme, the school has shown its strong commitment to implementing an effective whole school approach to online safety.”

Here is an online safety guide that focuses on going tech-free at Christmas. It highlights a number of tips such as making your own Christmas decorations, baking festive treats and going for a winter walk.
On Thursday 1st December we hosted a Y7 Parental Engage event where parents/carers were invited into school to focus on KS2-3 Transition in English, Maths and Science.

It was a fabulous night last night as we celebrated the return of the Class of 22 to receive their GCSE certificates. In total, 25 awards were given out, some subject based awards as well as some special awards.
